03 Aug Remembering Ayanna Ade
Comrade Sister Ayanna Ade Johnson passed away this morning at her home in Houston TX, peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends. We believe her passing was due chiefly to breast cancer which had spread to other areas of her body. She is at rest now and we celebrate her life, remembering her as a tireless revolutionary, and a great humanitarian who joined the Houston Chapter of the Black Panther Party in 1972. In 1974 she went to Oakland and for several years taught Biology at the Oakland Community School. She returned to Houston in 1978 and continued to serve the people as a nurse.
During the ensuing years she attended New York’s Columbia University School of Nursing receiving a Masters degree in Midwifery. During her tenure as a Midwife, Ayanna delivered hundreds of young babies. Many of these babies have grown up and now refer to her as Mama Ayanna.
